Day 1: at the new desk

First real day at the new desk in Brazil. Reactivated Rize after two months off. Engine work on OneProposal, prep to start sharing it. Family on WhatsApp. Settling in.

Rize day summary for 2026-05-14
Day captured in Rize

The plan for arrival-day-plus-one was simple: settle in, get Rize back on, push OneProposal forward enough that the rest of the week can be about sharing it.

Rize had been off for about two months. I told myself I would come back to it eventually, the way you tell yourself a lot of things. Sitting down this morning I realized I had no idea what my actual work weeks looked like in terms of hours, focus, or where attention was going. Reactivating it was the first move of the day, on instinct. Within an hour it was producing data. Within a week, that same data became a feature of this blog.

The rest of the day was the slow tax of arriving somewhere new. Where the desk goes. Where the wifi is reliable. Where coffee lives. None of that shows up in the Rize categories, but all of it eats focus. By mid-afternoon the logistics had resolved enough that I could open the OneProposal repo and do real work for the first time in a week.

The OneProposal angle today: engine work, refining the pricing flow, and the structural pieces that need to be in place before I can credibly send it to a first batch of people. The plan is Saturday for the first send. Two days to get the demo bullet-proof.

Family on WhatsApp. Brazil is family. That is part of why I am here.

Targets

  • Set up the workspace in Brazil enough to actually use it
  • Reactivate Rize tracking after two months off
  • Get OneProposal engine work moving so I can start sharing it this week

Wins

  • Reactivated Rize as the first action of the day. The simple decision was just turning it back on.
  • Desk usable, wifi reliable, coffee located. Arrival logistics resolved by mid-afternoon.
  • Real engine work on OneProposal got going. Nothing shippable yet, but the shape for "send to first people" is converging.
  • Family time on WhatsApp. Brazil is family. That is part of why I am here.

Losses

  • First hour (~8 to 9 AM) was not tracked. Lost data on the morning ramp.
  • Tool-bounced (lovable, claude, n8n, unpauseai) instead of going deep on one thread.
  • Settling-in tax over-consumed focus. Less code than I planned.

Lessons

  • Two months of "I'll get back to it" was the real cost. Turning the tracker on was the entire decision.
  • Arrival days need lower deliverable expectations baked in up front, not retrofitted as excuses at end of day.
  • Tool-bouncing is a signal of unclear priorities, not curiosity.
